artick Burgh Halls, 3-9 Burgh Hall Street, 1872, William Leiper
Richly carved white sandstone in lively French style. Steep mansard roof and later richly carved timber bell tower, on two-storey galleried main hall, well used by the public, with open truss roof. Three John Mossman sculpted relief panels, 'Misericordia', 'Justicia' and 'Veritas' above the ground-floor windows. A plainer three-storey east wing contains the Lesser Hall above Offices. Original stained-glass windows, including geometrical internal screen and Burgh Coat of Arms, opulent marbled staircase, now much better seen after remodelling and refurbishment, 2004, ZM Architecture.
