Shawlands Old Church, 1120 Pollokshaws Road, 1885, John Archibald Campbell, of Burnet, Son & Campbell

Massive Early English Gothic, white Giffnock rubble, towerless, tall open timber roof. Stained-glass window, 1909, John C Hall. An attractive early work by a major architect. Compare with the same firm's Athenaeum Theatre and Barony Church, of which this is a subtle variant (see Central Glasgow Guide).

Taken from "Greater Glasgow: An Illustrated Architectural Guide", by Sam Small, 2008. Published by the Rutland Press http://www.rias.org.uk
