Archaeology Notes

NS56SE 367 57470 64360

Location formerly cited as NS 5747 6435.

For (adjacent to S) Horse Tram Depot, see NS56SE 1346.

Immediately to the N of the Horse Tram Depot (NS56SE 1346) are the two wide bays of Admiral Street Substation (97-9 Admiral St), added in 1901, which has round-hedaed windows and large steel-lintelled doors.

J R Hume 1974.

This building is not specifically noted on the 1952 edition of the OS 1:1250 map. The street numbers cited indicate a location at NS 57470 64360, immediately N of the tram depot (NS56SE 136).

The suggestion previously recorded that this substation supplied the subway system (NS56NE 4915) appears unverified.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 15 February 2006.
