A large dovecot, constructed in 1696, stands about 200m to the north-west of Ballindalloch Castle.
The rectangular dovecot is constructed of rubble, and harled. There are three original flightholes, two above the central wooden door in the south wall, and one in the west gable. A later wooden cupola, added to the centre of the slate roof, contains a further sixteen flightholes. Inside, there are 844 nesting boxes, built of stone slabs.
Scottish estates had dovecots. In addition to meat and eggs, pigeon droppings were collected for use during the process of tanning leather, and as a fertiliser.
