Faulds farmstead, comprising two parallel buildings and situated on the S end of Braidenoch Hill below Irongallows, was noted during a pre-afforestation survey. The W building measures 15m by 3m within walls reduced to grassy banks. The entrance is probably on the S (SE) long wall and there is an outshot on the upper end. The E building measures 8m by 6m overall. An enclosure, measuring 40m by up to 25m, lies to the S whilst a hollow-way leads from the farm, N to the old road (NX59SE 27). Areas of rig, bounded by ruinous sinuous dykes, annotated 'old fences' on the 1st edition map, lie to either side of the farm buildings. The upper extent of the cultivation is marked by a dyke, replacing an earlier turf and stone head-dyke, beyond which lies the old road. A small rectangular enclosure, annotated 'hay ree' on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Kirkcudbrightshire 1853, sheet 9), overlies the N end of the rig whilst a ruin (NX59SE 52) to the SSE of the farm buildings, depicted at NX 5743 9003, is currently in use as a sheepfold.
Two irreg)ular enclosures lie isolated on the hillside below the farm (NMRS MS 959/3, nos.17 and 18). Both enclosures are annotated 'Old Fences' on the 1st edition map. A Y-shaped sheep shelter overlies the S enclosure.
