Archaeology Notes

NO57NW 26 centred 5067 7660

A township, comprising seven unroofed buildings, two enclosures and a field-system comprising at least three narrow plots is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Forfarshire 1865, sheet xiii). Six unroofed buildings, two enclosures and the field-system are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1976).

(GRC/AAS NO57NW 26: name cited as Burn of Berryhill and location as NO 5060 7669). Air photography (AAS/01/1/G2/8 and AAS/01/1/CT/21, flown 13 February 2001) has recorded the remains of four irregular-shaped enclosures, with two farmsteads and attached enclosures to the SE, on a S-facing slope above the Burn of Berryhill, and at an altitude of 290m OD.
