HY20NW 3 2331 0964.

(HY 2331 0964) Stone Cist and Human Remains found A.D. 1877 (NAT)

OS 6" map, Orkney, 2nd ed., (1903).

On the 24th April 1877 a cist 4 feet 1 inch long, 2 feet 5 inches wide and 2 feet 10 inches deep containing three crouched adult inhumations, was found 18 inches deep in a, probably natural,mound of sand, 170 yards s. of the farm of Wester Leafea.

No further information could be obtained by local enquiry on this cist. The site is a natural sandy knoll in an arable field.

Visited by OS (RD) 20 September 1964.

'The Orkney Herald' describes the discovery of the cist with bones, found between Kinghouse and Wester Leafea.
