'A large farm building with gardens and outhouses, and neat ornamental plots of ground attached..'

Name Book 1868-9

A farmstead comprising one unroofed building, two roofed buildings, one of which is arranged around a courtyard, and one enclosure is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Kincardineshire 1868-9, sheet iv), but it is not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1984). This site now lies within the Kincorth district of Aberdeen.

Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 12 May 1999.

(Reclassified as farmsteading). Nothing is now visible of this farmsteading, which stood on land now occupied by modern housing on the N side of Arbroath Way. As depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1869, sheet lxxxvi), the steading was U-shaped on plan with its open side facing SSE, and a farmhouse stood immediately to the W. The steading contained a threshing barn, powered by a water-wheel, which was fed via a lade from a pond that lay about 170m to the WSW. What may have been an unroofed building is shown close to the N side of the steading. By the end of the 19th century two new buildings had been constructed close to the N side of the range, the easterly of which overlay the site of the possible unroofed building, and a third new building is shown on the 2nd edition of the map (1904, sheet lxxxvi.NE) about 20m to the NW of the farmhouse.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 2 May 2002.
