OS 6" map, Ross-shire, 2nd ed., (1907)

Castle at Shandwick built by Wm Ross of Little Allen c. 1460. There is no sign of fosse or moat. Building materials have long been removed (Ordnance Survey Name Book [ONB] 1872). The remains of the castle were entirely removed by quarrying for road ballast in 1942.

This castle, which was probably built in about 1460, was ruinous by 1780 and was finally removed in 1942.
