NH86NW 2 c. 80 69.
Two crude burial urns, found c. 1820-1823 in "a bank of blown sand directly under the northern Sutor". The sand, partially removed by storms, overlaid a deposit of animal bones. One urn was filled with ashes and half-burned bones, the other with bits of a black bituminous-looking stone resembling jet, which had been made into beads and "little flat parallelograms per- forated edgewise, with four holes apiece". (NSA 1845; Miller 1835). In 1845 one of the urns was in possession of James Taylor of Nigg (NSA 1845)
H Miller 1835; New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845.
There is no sand directly underneath the northern Sutor and it seems more likely that the find was made in the sand dunes to the W, centred at NH 800 691. Otherwise no further information.

In 1820-23 two urns were found close to North Sutor; one contained what was probably a cremation, the other what appears to have been a jet necklace.
