Archaeology Notes

At NH 8884 5238, on an afforested ridge, are two adjoining hut circles. The huts, turf-and tree-covered, are very poorly defined. Entrances are discernible in the SE sector on the line of the long axis in both cases. The S hut measures 10.5m by 9.5m within a wall reduced to a rubble spread up to 0.4m high and from 2.0m to 4.0m broad. The N hut measures an estimated 13.0m by 10.5m inside a wall, surviving as a rubble band 0.3m high and 2.0m to 2.5m broad. There is no sign of associated land-use.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (J M) 28 January 1981.

Activities

Field Visit (July 1978)

Geddes House NH 888 523 NH85SE

There are two contiguous hut-circles in a wood 600m SE of Geddes House. The S example measures 12.6 m from E-W by 11.7 m transversely between the wall centres; the N example measures 15 m from SE -NW by 13.4 m transversely. The walls of both are spread to 2 m in thickness. The entrance to the S house probably lay on the SE .

RCAHMS 1978, visited July 1978
