Architecture Notes (May 2002)

Craiglockhart Parish Church was recorded as part of the threatened buildings survey in May 2002.This modest church was designed in a late Scots Gothic style by George Henderson in 1889. The original design was published in the British Architect July 4 1890. It was built in rock faced white rubble with red sandstone dressings but the upper part of the steeple built entirely of red sandstone and was not completed until a decade later. The church was recorded prior to its reordering to accommodate more ‘flexible’ worship. This will involve the rearrangement of the chancel and the removal of some of the pews. The church was recorded in it largely unaltered state. RCAHMS STG 2002
