This island lighthouse is situated on the northernmost point of Island Davaar (Davaar Island), from where it guards both the W side of Kilbrannan Sound and the S side of the entrance to Campbeltown Loch. It was built in 1854, being one of the programme of 29 lights that were authorised for construction by David and Thomas Stevenson under an Act of 1853.
