The cropmarks of a pit-alignment has been revealed by oblique aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1995) 1.2km ESE of Newlands farmsteading. It is aligned SW-NE, and seems to curve sharply to the NNW after about 120m, and it is visible for a total distance of at least 240m (NT c.5799 6587 to NT c.5802 6609). It terminates immediately to the SE of Black Castle fort (NT56NE 2). A second pit-alignment has been recorded 110m to NNE (NT56NE 53), also terminating immediately by the fort.
Information from RCAHMS (KJ) 17 September 1999.
