There are traces of iron-working at Clunes (Clunas: NH 881 464) above Cawdor Castle (NH84NW 1) at the S side of the road.

The record of the discovery of traces of iron-working at 'Clunes' before 1887 is supported by a report of possible iron-slag or bloom being found in ploughing in 1978 at NH 875 467. Site inaccessible at date of visit.
