Boathouse Bridge [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map [no date available].

This bridge formerly carried the A9 public road across the River Almond on the N side of Edinburgh (Turnhouse) Airport (NT17SE 69); it thus allowed access from Edinburgh to Falkirk and Stirling. The route was severed by the construction of the main runway of Edinburgh Airport in c. 1976.

Deprived of its former function, this 'bridge to nowhere' remains popular with aircraft spotters.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 8 March 2006.
