Archaeology Notes

NT14NW 55 1290 4970

Aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1995) has revealed the cropmark of an enclosure 550m NW of Medwyn Mains farmsteading. The enclosure is C-shaped, possibly with an open NNW side, and measures about 15-20m in diameter. There are a number of other indeterminate cropmarks in the surrounding area, the most distinctive being a crescentric mark about 10m long visible 35m to the SE, and a possible ring-ditch approximately 15m to the SE.

Information from RCAHMS (KJ) 30 August 1999.

Vegetation marks and the remains of a plantation, which is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Peebleshire 1859, sheet VIII), have been recorded on oblique aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1995) to the NNW of Medwyn Mains.
