Activities

Note

The site of Beechgrove, a 19th century granite villa that was converted for use as radio and broadcast studios for the BBC. It was best known as the site of the original Beechgrove Garden. The grounds to the north of the house were developed into a garden for the purpose of filming a Scottish-focused gardening programme on TV. The first episode of the Beechgrove Garden was broadcast in 1978 and the programme continued to be made here until late 1995. Filming of the programme moved to a new garden from 1996 (continuing the Beechgrove Garden name) which is located to the west of the city, near Westhill (see NJ80SW 191, Canmore ref. 373309). The villa and garden were demolished following this move and the western portion of the site redeveloped into flats. The BBC continue to occupy the eastern half of the site in a new building.
