Archaeology Notes

NN74NE 108 786 483.

Aerial photography (RCAHMSAP 1995) has revealed a series of cropmarks, including those of a possible enclosure, 180m SSE of Comrie Castle (NN74NE 29). A sub-circular feature, defined by a very narrow ditch, and abutted by two linear cropmarks, may represent an enclosure measuring approximately 55m in diameter. The SW side is obscured by indeterminate cropmarks, and an indistinct sub-circular mark is visible internally. A series of linear features to the W may represent field drains. None of these features are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet xlviii). A further series of cropmarks have been recorded in the N half of the field (NN74SE 107).
