998 Great Western Road, 1877, James Boucher
The grandest house on Great Western Road, with rich interiors. Italianate villa, for James Marshall of the Saracen Foundry. Ionic pilasters at first floor above ground-floor rustication, with flat voussoirs over windows, elaborate centre bay with balcony over Doric porch, all capped by stone balustrade. No longer St Mungo's Academy Centenary Club and maintenance is now required. Boucher often worked for people of the Saracen Foundry, including on the sumptuous interior of 22 Park Circus for Walter Macfarlane himself (see Central Glasgow Guide).
