Archaeology Notes

NH79NW 24 727 979.

NH 727 979. Situated on a gentle N-facing slope is the deserted township of Achtaduaig comprising the footings of at least 16 buildings including several long-houses, a number of small attendant enclosures, two corn-drying kilns, field walls and associated areas of cultivation. The buildings occur in two distinct groups, each with a corn-drying kiln. The township was probably abandoned in the early 19th century.

Revised at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (N K B) 21 October 1980.

A township comprising eleven unroofed buildings, eight enclosures and a field-system is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1879, sheet cix). Seventeen unroofed buildings, nine enclosures and a field-system are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1969).
