This intermediate station on the south Edinburgh 'suburban' line of the former North British Rly was opened as Duddingston and Craigmillar Station by the Edinburgh Suburban and Southside junction Rly on 1 December 1884; it was apparently also known as Duddingston Station.

The station closed to regular passenger traffic on 10 September 1962, the line itself remaining in use. The reopening of this station, together with that of others on the line, has been proposed.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 11 July 2000.
