Clyde Street building burnt 1952.

Six pages describing the beginnings of the Veterinary College in Clyde Street, Edinburgh, its subsequent move to Summerhall, Edinburgh and further extensions to the building.

In this description is a reference to "History of the Edinburgh Veterinary College" by O. Charnock Bradley.

PLANS:

City Architects, Plan Store, Drawer no.106

a) 1 old plan: An ordinary double New Town house, conjecturally adapted as the Veterinary School - Two Storey with basement and attic, Scale 1/8". N.d. Unsigned, except for a rough note on the back 'Plan V. College'

b) Set of 6 drawings: Drawings of ' Building proposed to be erected in Clyde street by Mr Dick. R and R Dickson, 5 Blenheim Place, Edinburgh, Architects. Docketted as referrred to in our Missives on the first September,1832, and signed by John Dick and Son and Smith and Watson.

c) Set of survey drawings: Buildings in the block of buildings, N.d.

d) 2 contract drawings: Small alterations, dated, 11 Royal Exchange, Edinburgh, 27th September, 1883, signed by John Mitchell and Son (Contractors).

e) General working drawings nos. 2,3,5,8,9 and 11. Reconstruction of the Clyde Street buildings, dated from the City Chambers 1886, and 4 mounted tracings of the heating scheme signed by MacKenzie and Moncur, 1887.

NMRS REFERENCE:

No.2 of (b) above, giving the 'Third' floor plan, though curiously enough it would now be called the First, being the first over the street floor, which has basement below, and of No.5 of (b) above, showing the front elevation.

MISCELLANEOUS:

R.D.V Historical File.

The St Andrew's Square Cinema opened in 1923 as a 1500 seat cinema being built on the site of the Royal Dick Veterinary College and Baptist Chapel. Demolished after a fire in 1952.
