Such production sheds tend to be single storey to maximise the natural lighting conditions. The north bay of the Frame flat was incorporated into the three storey and attic north elevation (Buccleuch Street) of the factory. |

Note the cast brackets at the head of the column - this would have supported the line shafting (central power distribution system) which would have operated the knitting machines. Such line shafting was replaced by individual electric motors on each machine (20th century). The knitting machines in the photograph date from the 1980s. |
