(Name cited as Boddam). Vertical air photography (BKS NJ14S/2793061, flown 21 September 1978) has recorded the grass-covered 'foundations' of rectangular buildings and small enclosures on a gentle E-facing slope in an area of rough grazing at an altitude of about 24m OD.

Field Visit (October 2022)
NK 13071 41645 There are several possible grass-covered foundations of buildings and small enclosures lying within a larger area disturbed by later quarrying. The structures may be related to the quarrying as they are not depicted on the OS maps of 1867 or 1888.
Visited during fieldwork by SCAPE. Foundations of buildings not evident on the ground. There is a surviving small shed depicted on the 1899 2nd edition OS - not the 1868 1st edition. Curved poured concrete roof. Door on south side. No windows. Ashlar granite construction, mortar bonding. Inside, wooden batons may indicate it was wood lined. Gunpowder store is possibly associated with quarry.
Information from S. Boyd and J. Hambly - Scottish Coastal Archaeology and the Problem of Erosion (SCAPE).
