Archaeology Notes

NH75NW 25 73651 57571

Standing building recording; evaluation NH 736 575 Fyvie is a double-fronted cottage of apparently 19th-century date (NH75NW 25). Pre-alteration photography was undertaken followed by hand-clearance of internal floors which were

to be lowered between September and December 2005. Footings for a substantial extension to the rear of the property were excavated under archaeological supervision. The cottage seems to stand, in part, on the rubble footings of an earlier building lying on a slightly different alignment. However, there were no indications of earlier structures or finds. It seems to have become ruinous and roofless, possibly in the early 20th century, before being restored.

Archive to be deposited in NMRS.
