Archaeology Notes

NO11NE 167 1609 1713

One unroofed building is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1866, sheet cx), but it is not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1987).

Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 3 March 1998.

This building is probably to be identified with the 'Mill' or 'Oil Mill' that is noted on a farm plan (undated but amended in 1854) to the NW of what was then named the Farg Water. A manuscript annotation places it a short distance NE of the Ladybank - Perth (Hilton Junction) railway line.

The mill is depicted as then being approached by a track from the W. It comprised one long building (aligned N-S) and three smaller buildings (aligned E-W). The most easterly building spans what has apparently been a lade and may be that noted by the OS.

Information from RCAHMS (HB), 21 September 2000.

NMRS, PTD/594/1.
