(NH 6092 9305) Carn Liath (NR)
OS 6" map, Sutherland, 2nd ed., (1907)
Carn Liath, a round cairn about 65ft in diameter and 9ft high, but as the passage and chamber are filled with rubbish nothing can be seen of the structure except the top of a large stone near the centre. When visited by the RCAHMS (1911), certain large stones set upright suggested a chambered character.
RCAHMS 1911, visited 1909; A S Henshall 1963.
A chambered cairn, as described above.
Visited by OS (R D L) 4 June 1963.
No change.
Visited by OS (J B) 22 September 1980.
Field Visit (2 October 1909)
86. Chambered Cairn, Carn Liath, The Tulloch, Bonarbridge. At, the W. end of Druim Liath, and about 1 m. N. of Bonarbridge, is ‘Carn Liath’. It has been excavated, and much of the stone removed, especially from the E. side inwards. The diameter is about 65', and the greatest height 9'. Certain large stones, set upright, suggest a chambered character. One at 19' from the E. edge probably indicates the commencement of the chamber, and the pointed head of a large boulder, set with its broad face to the E. at 42' inwards, seems to have formed the back.
OS 6-inch map, Sutherland, Sheet cviii.
RCAHMS 1911, visited (AOC) 2nd October 1909.
