NN67SE 10.01 Formerly at 6922 7166, now re-located at 6932 7169.
The Wade Stone, erected in 1729 by General Wade when the road was first constructed, is 4 feet wide and 8 feet high. This original marker stone, essential on a Highland road, was on the east side of the road and had to be moved when the new A9 was constructed, as it would have been situated in the middle of the north-bound carriageway. It has been re-located next to the new south-bound carriageway as close as possible to its original location. Smaller stones next to it have been carefully re-positioned in the same relationship to the Wade Stone. There is an original carving of the year - 1729 - but other prolific carving is of a later date.
