(A) (NH 6737 8515) Hut Circle (NR)

OS 6" map, Ross-shire, 2nd ed., (1907)

Two stone-walled huts (A and B).

Hut 'A' set into the E shoulder of Cnoc Leddie, is oval measuring c.11.0m WNW to ESE by c.9.5m between the centres of a wall spread to c.2.5m all round. A few outer wall facing stones can be seen in the SE arc. The entrance is not evident.

'B' at NH 6733 8508 set into a SE-facing slope, is a circular platform, c.10.0m diameter, with a back scarp and frontal build-up with traces of walling round the rim. In the SE are two or three outer facing stones. The entrance is not apparent.

There are a few stone clearance heaps in the vicinity particularly to the N of hut 'A' which are probably from contemporary cultivation plots. 'B' surveyed at 1/10 000

Activities

Field Visit (6 September 1943)

Hut circle, Pollagharrie.

About 500 yds NW of the farm are remains of a very small hut circle, measuring only some 18' over all. It lies on the E tip of a spur of Struie above the 550' contour but below the summit of the knoll.

Visited by RCAHMS (VGC) 6 September 1943.

Field Visit (September 1978)

Lechanich NH 673 851 NH68NE 12

These two hut-circles stand among a scatter of small cairns. The more northerly example measures 11 m from ESE to WNW by 9.5m transversely between wall-centres; the other measures 10m in diameter and is terraced into the slope.

RCAHMS 1979, visited September 1978
