71-75 Dublin Street was formerly 37 Dublin Street. Duke Street, to the south, was begun in 1801, and was continued northwards as Dublin Street in 1803 as part of Reid and Sibbald's plans for the extension of the New Town. In 1966 Duke Street was renamed Dublin Street but retained its old numbers, while the original Dublin Street was renumbered.
