NG 780 300 (centre) In the springs of 1995 and 1996 a field survey was carried out on the NTS Balmacara Estate. The estate covers approximately 22.5km2 of the Lochalsh peninsula. It lies largely within the points of a triangle formed by Kyle in the SW, Plockton in the N and Balmacara in the SE. The range of topographic variation found within the estate largely reflects that found on the W coast of Scotland generally. The range of sites found during the survey reflects this topographic variation.
During two seasons of survey 109 new sites were recorded. A full report is lodged with the NMRS.

Field Visit (May 1996 - June 1996)
Lying a few meters to the rear of the beach on a boulder strewn foreshore is a well preserved stone built boat noost. This structure measures 3.5m wide by 4.0m long over walls 0.9m thick which still stand to over 1.0m high. The open end of the noost faces to the east. A very poor length of boulder wall now closes off the end of the noost, perhaps built so the noost would function as a small pen.

Condition Survey (1998 - 1998)
A length of ruinous boulder wall now closes the end of the noost, perhaps built so the noost would function as a small pen. The noost is presumably associated with the abandoned settlement of Scalpaidh just above the modern road
