Archaeology Notes

NF85NW 24.01 centred 82810 56210.

The newest building in this farmstead is a shuttered-concrete byre with a corrugated-iron roof, built in 1948. The house was rebuilt in 1934 using some material from a demolished byre, but is mainly of corrugated iron on a timber frame with an abestos-cement tile roof. This dwelling replaced a rubble-built thatched house to the E end of the stackyard, which was built in 1897 and converted to a byre in 1934. The thatched byre is still in working order and contains intact stall divisions. To the W of the stackyard is a small kiln barn; the kiln was removed when the local mill closed (1998).

Information from RCAHMS (SS), 10 February 2006.
