(NH607405)"Battlefield ... this name applies to two or three ruinous dwelling houses...A battle was fought here at one time, between a few highlanders, hence the name".

Name Book 1870.

A clan fight is said to have taken place in the Seventeenth Century at Battlefield.

ISSFC 1926.

John MacLean of Davoch-na-Largin with a few followers set upon four foraging Hessian soldiers, who had come to the Mill of Davoch, and killed one (c.1715-1720) Outlawed until 1740 he stood trial and lived on until 1748 in his house at Battlefield as the place has been called after the affray with the Hessian Soldiers."
