Archaeology Notes

NH64SE 35 6978 4009.

At NH 6978 4009, on a rise, is a cairn which has recently been ploughed through and afforested. It survives as a stony mound c. 0.7m high and c.10.0m in diameter, with occassional large stones around the perimeter, probably displaced kerb-stones. The centre, where a cist might be expected, is undisturbed.

This disturbed cairn stands in dense forest 1.3km SSE of Welltown of Easter Leys farmhouse. It measures about 10m in diameter over a possible kerb and is 0. 7m in height.
