Accessing Scotland's Past Project

The unoccupied farmstead of Torbain is shown as roofed on current editions of the Ordnance Survey 1:10000 map.

The farmstead comprised three buildings. One was L-shaped on plan, while the other two were rectangular. Located a short distance to the south was a limekiln.

A nineteenth-century source describes the site as a 'farm house, with offices and farm attached'. This description indicates that these remains are likely to post-date the agricultural improvements of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
