(NH 6275 3321) Stone Coffin found A.D. 1830 (NAT)

OS 6"map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1905)

'Midtown...Near the back of this house there is a stone coffin, about 3 feet long by 2 feet broad. No person near the place can tell when it was first opened, or what it contained. It still lies embeded inthe ground in the same position as it was found in 1830.'

Name Book 1871.

No trace of the cist could be seen. The present occupier of Midtown though aware of the find could not give the precise site nor say for certain whether the cist still lies in the ground though it is thought to do so.

The house of Midtown is at NH 6275 3325.

Visited by OS (R D L) 30 August 1963.
