Archaeology Notes

NG85NE 16 863 550

NG 863 550 Corn-drying kiln.

M Macdonald 1995.

The kiln was surveyed during a survey of the lands around Loch Torridon by the North of Scotland Archaeological Society (NOSAS). The oval structure is 6.5m x 4.3m externally and the bowl of the kiln is only 0.45m deep. A small aperture, 0.9m long and 0.27m deep (considerably shortened by tumble) leads into a small chamber. A small compartment or building, 3m x 2.3m internally, stands to the S and has an eastern entrance. The survey team consider the structures to be the possible remains of a salt pan.
