Archaeology Notes

NN51NE 18 5602 1705

As first built, this station was of timber construction and comprised a single platform. This was destroyed by fire in 1893 and subsequently rebuilt with two platforms, timber superstructures, and the main entry from the up platform towards the road. There was a water tower at the S end of the station, which incorporated a garden with a fountain (which still survives) in the shape of a heron.

C E J Fryer 1989.

This intermediate station on the Callander-Crianlarich-Oban route (the 'Oban line') of the former Caledonian Rly. was opened by the Callander and Oban Rly. on 1 June 1870. It closed to regular passenger traffic on 28 September 1965.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 19 June 1998.
