This intermediate station on the Ardrossan Harbour branch of the former Caledonian Rly was opened (as Ardrossan Station) on 3 September 1888 by the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Rly. It was renamed Ardrossan Town Station on 1 October 1906, closed on 1 January 1917 and reopened on 1 February 1919. It was renamed Ardrossan North Station on 2 June 1924, and closed to regular passenger traffic on 4 July 1932.
After closure, the platform canopies from this station were re-erected at Buchanan Street Station, Glasgow ((NS56SE 59.00).
