Site recorded during a desk-based and field inspection by CFA within the accessible areas of a proposed opencast coal extraction site.

NS 547 176 Disused mine workings

Details in 1948: Output 100 tons per day, 25,000 per annum, longwall working. 55 employees. 1 bar screen, washing at Whitehill 1/2 (NS51NW 6.00). Canteen and baths also at Whitehill 1/2 . Electricity, 100% from public supply. Report dated 09-08-1948.

Other Details: Skares Brickworks (NS51NW 6.01) was built adjacent to the mine, and utilised blaes [volatile mudstone/shale] from its bing.
