Details in 1948: Output 30 tons per day, 10,249 per annum. 24 employees. No baths or canteen. Some steam power, all electricity from public supply. Report dated 09-08-1948. Report dated 09-08-1948.

Other Details: Afton No. 2 closed in 1914. Afton No. 1 transferred to National Coal Board (NCB) in 1948. Site of an experimental oil plant using Cannel coal in the 1930s. Associated brickworks operated until 1978.

Also listed in Scottish Collieries gazeteer under 'Licensed Mines in Ayrshire 1947-97' , licensee New Cumnock Collieries Limited (opened 1873, closed 1948).
