Archaeology Notes

NJ70SW 28 7320 0201

The remains of the steading of this croft lie in woodland 530m NW of Wickerinn Farm steading (NJ70SW 29) and appear to comprise a cottage and an outbuilding. The WSW half of the cottage has been destroyed by the construction of a track, but the outbuilding, which lies 6.5m to the NE, measures about 8.6m from NNW to SSE by 4.5m transversely over walls 0.5m in thickness and up to 1m in height. The interior, which was choked with bracken on the date of visit, contains two compartments, each with an entrance on the WSW. The steading is depicted roofed on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1869, sheet lxxxiv; 1901, sheet lxxxiv.NE).
