Archaeology Notes

NJ70NE 37 7939 0645

This large disused quarry is situated on the SW face of a rocky knoll within the S end of Gask Wood. It developed from two smaller quarries (NJ 7936 0643 and NJ 7945 0657), which are depicted separately on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1901, sheet lxxiv.SW). The quarry is now used as a store for the Aberdeenshire Council's Highways Department and the wooded slopes around the E, N and W sides are covered with spoil and discarded rubbish.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, ARG), 8 August 1996.
