Archaeology Notes

NO39NW 9 325 999

Air photography (AAS/98/01/G1/20-2, 25 and AAS/98/01/CT, flown 27 January 1998) has recorded field clearance heaps, the possible remains of at least two hut-circles, areas of rig-and-furrow cultivation, longhouses and the remains of bow-ended houses. A large sinuous bank encloses the area which is situated in an area of grouse moor on a N-facing slope at an altitude of 400m OD.

The following sites were recorded during winter aerial reconnaissance: Muir of Dess (Aboyne & Glentanar parish)

NO 325 998 Depopulated settlement, clearance cairns, rig and furrow, bow-ended houses and ?hut circle (NO39NW 9).
