Archaeology Notes

NT96SW 133 94307 63734

(Location cited as NT 943 647). Bridge, Eyemouth, late 19th century, engineer John Smeaton. A single-span segmental-arched rubble bridge reinforced with old rails. A small semicircular arch has been added at the N end for a railway.

This bridge cannot be identified on the 1968 edition of the OS 1:2500 map. The area indicated falls within a caravan park near the cliff-edge.

(Location established as NT 94307 63734). This bridge is depicted in the 2nd edition of the O.S. six-inch map (Berwickshire, sheet 6, 1908). It carries the A1107 public road over the Eye water and (on the NW side) the trackbed of the former Eyemouth Railway.
