This major reservoir extends from (from NN 38168 13459 to NN 49510 07276), across portions of the parishes of Callander, Buchanan and Aberfoyle.
Apart from its large extent, it is notable for its recreational use which is based on its scenic surroundings. A steam-driven paddle steamer (SS Sir Walter Scott) sails from between the pier NN40NE 26.01 and the pontoon NN41SW 25, and is a notable attrcation.
