Rifle Range [NAT]
OS 1:10,560 map, 1969.
This rifle range is situated on the S-facing slope of Binn Hill, between Kinfauns Castle (NO12SE 25.00) and the East Lodge (NO12SE 25.01).
The rifle range was used by troops based at Perth Barracks and several associated Territorial Army Centres. It was certainly in use at the end of the First World War and possibly between the two world wars of the twentieth cenutry. It is likely to have been created for use by the volunteer batallions during the latter part of the 19th century and during the Boer War on 1899-1902.
Information from Mr Graham-Watson, in letter of 11 June 2001, July 2001
The rifle range is not shown on either the Ordnance Survey 1st or 2nd edition of the 6-inch maps.
Information from RCAHMS (DE), November 2005
