Archaeology Notes

NN22NE 5 2795 2744

What may be one roofed shieling-hut and two unroofed shieling-huts are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet lxxxix). One unroofed building which may be a shieling-hut is shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1976).

Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 10 December 1997.

The buildings described in the previous report are more likely to be associated with mine workings than be the remains of shieling-huts. The 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet lxxxix) depicts a spoil tip next to the two unroofed buildings, while an 18th century plan of the lead mines in Coninish Glen shows two adits or shafts here, one on either side of the burn, along with the annotation ' Ben Loy vein oppen'd'.

Information from RCAHMS (SDB) 14 February 2000
