Archaeology Notes

NO11NE 47.01 1718 1836

Above the doorway at the N end of the farmhouse at Wester Rhynd there is a sandstone lintel which bears the initials PMK and EH, and the date 1667. The lintel is clearly in re-use, but the initials refer to a marriage between the Keir and Hay families. The incised date of 1827 set in a cartouche in the upper centre of the lintel probably refers to the date at which the present farmhouse was built and the lintel was re-used in its present position.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, IF), 27 November 1996.
